Terms of Use

Plain-English summary: By using Locate you agree to these terms. Be respectful, be honest about your age, post only content you own or have permission to share, and do not use Locate to harm, harass, or deceive other people. Anyone who posts nudity, pornography, or other adult material risks having that content removed and may be removed from Locate.
1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading or using Locate you agree to these Terms of Use and our Privacy Policy. These terms form a legal agreement between you and Balo Services.
2. Age Requirements
Minimum age to create an account:
• 13 years old in most countries worldwide
• 16 years old in Australia, South Korea, Germany, Austria, France, Belgium, Denmark, Netherlands, Norway, and Finland
You must provide your real date of birth during registration. Providing a false date of birth is a violation of these terms and will result in immediate account deletion.
3. Your Account
- Provide accurate information including your real date of birth and country
- Keep your password confidential — do not share your login
- You are responsible for all activity under your account
- You may only create one account — creating multiple accounts to evade a suspension is prohibited
4. Community Guidelines
Locate is designed to be safe and welcoming for users of all ages.
You may post:
- Photos, videos, and stories from your travels and explorations
- Tips, recommendations, and information about destinations
- Questions and discussions about travel and relocation
- Content that is kind, honest, and respectful
You must never post content that:
- Contains nudity, sexual content, pornography, or anything sexually suggestive or adult in nature
- Depicts graphic violence, gore, or self-harm — including videos or images of real-world violent acts, injury, or death that are not part of a clearly newsworthy report published by a recognised news organisation. We do not permit the public sharing of graphic violence for entertainment, shock value, or any other purpose outside of a genuine, clearly attributed newsworthy context.
- Harasses, bullies, threatens, or targets another person
- Promotes hatred on the basis of race, ethnicity, religion, gender, or other protected characteristic
- Is spam, a scam, or deliberately misleading
- Advertises adult services, illegal goods, or controlled substances
- Contains links to adult websites, phishing sites, or malware
- Infringes copyright, trademark, or privacy rights of another person
- Impersonates another person or organisation
- Is directed at or designed to exploit children in any way
Adult content — removal from Locate
Locate is designed to be safe and welcoming for users of all ages. Anyone who posts nudity, pornographic content, or any other adult material risks having that content removed immediately and may be removed from the Locate app — including temporary suspension or permanent ban of their account — without prior warning where the violation is clear or severe.
Mapmakers
If you join Mapmakers, you agree that contributions you choose to share may be used to build and improve maps and location features in Locate and in future products and services we develop. You must only contribute media you have the right to share. Private places you mark must be respected by everyone — media from those areas is never used. You may leave Mapmakers and remove your contributions at any time. Mapmakers does not change your ordinary use of Locate if you choose not to join.
Video content
Videos shared on Locate must comply with all of the rules above. We expressly prohibit videos depicting real-world graphic violence — including footage of physical assaults, serious injury, torture, or death — unless the content forms part of a clearly identified newsworthy report from a recognised news organisation and is shared in that context. Uploading, sharing, or linking to such videos outside of a genuine newsworthy context will result in immediate content removal and may result in account suspension or permanent ban.
5. Enforcement — Warnings and Bans
- Strike 1 — Warning issued. Content removed. Email notification sent.
- Strike 2 — Second warning. Content removed. Account flagged for review.
- Strike 3 — Account permanently suspended. Email blocked from re-registration.
For severe violations — including child safety violations and threats of violence — we reserve the right to permanently ban an account immediately without prior warning.
To appeal a moderation decision email locate@locatecommunity.com with subject "Account Appeal" — we respond within 14 days.
6. Advertisements
Locate displays paid advertisements in the social feed clearly labelled "Sponsored." Advertisers agree to our Advertiser Terms. We reserve the right to reject or remove any advertisement that violates our guidelines.
7. Disclaimer
Locate is an aid to exploration — always use your own judgement when navigating, particularly in remote areas. Do not rely solely on Locate for safety-critical navigation.
8. Governing Law
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales.
